Shaw Multicultural Channel (SMC) on Channel 109
is a cross-cultural and multilingual television station owned and operated by Shaw Cablesystems G.P. 
and available to basic cable subscribers in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada.

SMC has been providing local and international television series since 1979.
The current season features programming in over 20 languages.
 

Shaw manages the administration, scheduling, promotion and distribution of SMC,
and contracts with local independent program suppliers for the series that air on the channel.
Local independent producers submit program proposals to Shaw for consideration.
 

Airtime on the channel is contracted at no charge for successful proposals,
and the suppliers support the cost of acquiring and/or producing programming through
business sponsorships that air as part of their television show(s).

 

Shaw Multicultural Channel (SMC) 
is exclusively available to basic cable subscribers
in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada
in the communities served by Shaw Cablesystems and Delta Cable.

Shaw Multicultural Channel (SMC) 
acquires programming from independent producers who
produce programming in the local community and/or
purchase foreign television series from international suppliers.  

Some of the independent producers who contract with SMC
bring with them a wealth of film and television experience
from their home country, while others are new to the industry
and are producing programming to showcase their community
as an integral part of Canadian society.

Shaw Cablesystems owns and operates Shaw Multicultural Channel,
and distributes the channel from the master control centre
that serves Shaw's local origination channels,
Shaw TV, the community channel on Cable 4,
and SMC on Cable 109.

Shaw manages the channel administration, including the acquisition
and review of new program proposals; seasonal scheduling of
programming; and channel promotions.
