FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need to have television
experience?
Prior experience in producing professional
high-quality television programming is strongly recommended.
However, completed proposals
from individuals with a business background who are committed to using professional personnel, equipment and techniques will also be
considered.
Program hosts should have previous on-air
experience or,
at a minimum, extensive experience in performance, presentation
and/or public speaking.
What do I include in my proposal?
The completed program proposal must
include:
A completed copy of the Business Plan for each series proposed, along with
the required attachments including the
Program Format Log, copyright clearances and
performance clearances, production and business information.
Be sure to tell us everything you can about the proposal; the Business Plan is
your opportunity to present your idea.
The proposal includes a demo video
which is one to two episodes of an acquired international program,
or one pilot episode of a local program, mastered on Beta SP or DV Cam.
The demo video must be one
episode of the program being proposed.
General demo reels unrelated to the
series are not accepted as demo programs.
When will my program be on the air?
Shaw reviews program proposals on a
seasonal basis, with new series offered airtime as available each Spring (April) and Fall (October).
Shaw reviews proposals for the
next available season, and provides a preliminary response as soon as possible.
If an offer of
airtime can be made, the program series could potentially be on
air within 3 - 6 months
of the initial proposal submission.
If a suitable airtime is not available for an
approved proposal, Shaw may carry that proposal over for consideration in an
upcoming season.
We regret that incomplete proposals and
proposals that do not meet technical standards and/or content requirements will not be considered for an
offer of airtime.
How can Shaw assist me?
Independent program
suppliers are responsible for the costs of the purchase,
production and
post-production
of contracted programs. Shaw provides airtime, channel administration, promotion,
playback and signal distribution at no cost to the program supplier.
Shaw may provide limited access to
post-production facilities for targeted proposals, by negotiation.
We do not purchase programming for
the channel, nor do we provide direct funding for development or
production.
Independent program suppliers may
engage sponsorship partners
to fund the production and acquisition of television
programming.
Sponsors are acknowledged through on-air sponsorship messages which are produced by the program supplier
in
accordance with regulatory and
channel guidelines for sponsorship.
